The Friendly Degree

Why the friendly degree?

The degree of Mark Master Mason is frequently referred to as the friendly degree, probably due to the nature of the ceremony of Advancement during which a candidate is made a Mark Man and then a Mark Master to qualify him to preside over a lodge of operative masons. The ceremony is based on the building of King Solomon's temple and includes much drama and opportunities for humour, making it meaningful, but most enjoyable for the candidate and the brethren while still inculcating a moral lesson.

Who can join

In England and Wales, candidates to join a lodge of Mark Master Masons are required to have been initiated, passed and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason in a Regular Craft Lodge.
